Oh you know, just your average ole mansion that’s over 90,000 sq. ft, built in the early 1900′s, and had the world’s largest private zoo…no big deal! Um seriously?!! This place is unreal! There are 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres of gardens, tennis courts, a private cinema, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and the most gorgeous unhindered views of the Pacific Ocean with the property spanning over 82,000 acres.
Take a small tram ride from the visitor center up to the castle. Keep your eyes out for a number of different animals roaming the grounds. As we made our way up we saw a tons of zebras, cattle, and African goats. The tram also drove by the zoo area where some other animals were held when William Hearst had his zoo. Animals such as elk, tahr goats, llamas, camels, kangaroos, giraffes, and other species.
A tour guide will take you through some of the main areas and share some interesting facts about the property. The place has undergone a few restoration projects so it looked perfectly preserved and maintained. From the hardwood floors, to the antique furniture, it all is so well kept. Our tour ended in the movie theater room where a video played “Hearst Castle – Building the Dream”. You’ll learn quite a bit about the history of the property and William Hearst himself. Afterwards you are welcome to wander the grounds before loading back on the tram back down to the visitor center.
Once again, keep your eyes peeled on the return tram…I personally think the views were much better on the way down. Enjoy your time at the castle! Click here to reserve your tickets today!
