We are lacing up our shoes and taking you on a journey to Camelback Mountain!! Arizona is known for it’s warm weather, sunny days, and lovely desert-landscaped hiking trails. With a convenient location, breathtaking views, and challenging trails, Camelback Mountain is one of our favorite hikes in the Phoenix area.
The Echo Canyon trail is considered an intense and difficult anaerobic hike not for a novice hiker. The hike ascends 1,280ft over 1.2 miles…sounds easy enough right? Wrong…but we aren’t going to let that stop us now are we! The hike starts out pretty simple for the first half mile. After that the trail becomes so steep that they have built 2 sets of handrails to allow hikers to maintain a grip while pushing through the incline. After the first two rails, the remaining .7 miles consist of large boulder rocks, desert critters, and phenomenal views as you make your way to the summit.
If you are looking for a slightly less intense hike that the whole family can enjoy you might want to check out the Cholla Trail or one of the other many hikes in the area such as Papago trail, “A” mountain, or Piestewa (Squaw) Peek. Don’t forget to pack plenty of water to stay hydrated, respect the nature around you, and have lots of fun!! Let us know if you were able to conquer the mountain! Happy trails!!
