If you’re interested in a good hike and want to relax to reward yourself after, we recommend hiking the Lanikai Pillbox Trail in Oahu, Hawaii! The Pillbox Hike is also known as the Ka’iwa Ridge Trail and it’s the perfect short hike that has amazing panoramic views before laying on the white sands of Lanikai Beach. The hike is between 45 – 60 minutes roundtrip and there’s plenty of pit stops for you to take in the breathtaking views. The view of the rich blue water and the Mokulua Islands is the main attraction to why you go on this hike.
About the hike:
The hike is steep but it’s not difficult to climb. As you make your way up the trail, you will stop by two military bunkers (pillboxes) that stand as a lookout points and a place to rest and have lunch while enjoying the view. You can’t miss the pillbox as it’s decorated by street art and graffiti. There are no shaded areas on this hike, therefore bring sunscreen or a hat. Also, it’s pretty slippery so you would need to bring a good pair of shoes. The hike down is a bit trickier than going up because of how slippery it can be. If you’re an advanced hiker, this trail should be fairly easy.
