Warm weather, warm water, tons of excursions… Jamaica can’t be beat! On the northern part of the island, about an hour east of Montego Bay is a little town called Ocho Rios. While the city itself is dirty, the excursions can’t be beat!! If you’re ever in the area you have to check out Dunn’s River Falls!! There are multiple falls that flow down rocks like large stairs and then continues to flow down other falls until it eventually runs down to the soft white sands of the Caribbean beach. Along the way there are also a number of small tide pools where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the falls.
The cost is $20USD to enter the park, if you have water shoes be sure to bring them. If you don’t have any and didn’t pick up any in town, they do have shoes you can purchase there but they will charge you $10USD for a cheap pair. There are lockers on site if you want to pay to store your valuables but if you hired a driver to bring you to the falls, they will also let you leave your items in the car/van. Once you are in the park with your water shoes on, make your way to the bottom of the falls. Here you can see where the water hits the white sands and then runs off into the bright aqua blue ocean water. From the bottom you can zig zag up the falls to hike upward. The rocks were not slippery and the rapids were not too strong but definitely climb with caution and we wouldn’t recommend young children make the climb. There is a paved pathway that runs along the side where they can view the falls and then play in the larger tide pool at the top.
Once you’re at the top of the falls, snap a few pics and then enjoy splish splashing in the tide pools on your way back down!!
